as suspected, wishing on stars has brought me nothing but heartbreak, so my current wish was made while facing good ol' terra firma.
and my wish came true!!!
and now that it came true, i can tell you what it is. not long after coming back from training, La Taureau decided that a life in ohio just wasn't for her, despite the fact she was born and raised there. upon further discussion, we decided it would work out for the best all around if we stayed in california. our previous landlady was really great, and we really liked the neighborhood we had been in, so we decided i should call and find out if there were any apartments available. not long after deciding this, i ran into one of our old neighbors and was told one of the two-bedroom units was going to be available very soon. the previous one-bedroom was a tight squeeze before La Cognilia came along, and afterwards, it was damn impossible. this unit is one of the nicer units on the second floor, with a balcony, fireplace, and garage. it was a little out of our price range, but we figured if we could endure doing without some of the creature comforts (like cable t.v.. we could always rent movies/tv shows on dvd, or stream to our computers) this was a place we could grow into as La Cognilia got older and if we decided to expand our current family.
so i called, acting innocently as if i didn't know about the impending vacancy, and the landlady fell into my trap; "oh! we DO have one available! but it's a two bedroom/two bath, are you interested in that?" so not only is it a two-bedroom/two-bath with a balcony and fireplace, but it also has a garage (my "toys" have spent way too long out in the cold...!), AND a parking spot, AND an additional spot behind a locked gate for my excess toys, AND the best mexican food spot this side of the border is mere steps from our front door. not to mention, we are 10 minutes walking from SEVERAL grocery stores and close enough to downtown so i can ride my bike to work (saving on gas, another cost-cutting feature!) but most importantly, its a neighborhood that La Taureau feels safe in, which is most important if and when i get deployed with the army.
yesterday, after waiting nearly a week for a response, and resigning myself to the fact we were going to have to start looking elsewhere, i got a call the apartment was ours if i was still interested...
