next week at this time, i will be standing in line somewhere at army basic training. i'm a combination of excited and nervous...but mostly nervous.
i'm excited because i've been waiting and preparing for this for nearly a year, and it's finally happening. in my preparation, i've been searching youtube videos and reading discussion boards, and some of the training looks kinda fun. kinda like boy scout camp on steroids run by bullys from the varsity football team.
i'm nervous because as much as i've read up on basic training, there's a lot i still don't know. are they really gonna feed us spaghetti and then make us run up a mountain (thank you for that image, "band of brothers"!)?
so for the next few days I will be trying to get myself mentally prepared. once i get there, get my uniform, and get yelled at for the first time, and get a better idea of what to expect, a lot of the tension will go away, like getting in a cold pool; once you dive in, you're no longer nervous about how cold it is.

I wish you the very best of luck. In an unaccountable, quite bizarre way, I rather envy you.
But mind yourself, eh?
