on july 23, 2009, at 9:05am, La Cognilia made her grand entrance. it wasn't without drama, as she had the cord wrapped tightly around her neck, and received a nasty bruise/abrasion from the vacuum assist. she was very pale at birth, and had to spend a day and a half in the special care unit. it was somewhat disconcerting as i kept remembering what they said in the childbirth classes they would only take our child away if there was something wrong...as they were taking our child away.
after everyone left, La Taureau were left alone staring at each other. the most anti-climactic, disappointing, downer moment i've ever had. but we were soon able to see La Cognilia in the special care unit, and could already notice an improvement in her appearance and alertness. by the next evening, we were finally able to have her in our room and all to ourselves. when the nurse came in the following morning, she looked at La Cognilia, looked at me, then said "you know, she looks a lot like dad."
best compliment i've ever received....

Oh honey, so sorry for the scare... but so HAPPY that Sofia is here! And when she's a teenager, you'll remember that moment and think, "And i thought THAT was bad..." ;)

strangely enough, i can't wait for the inevitable arguement right around the age of 15, when she says she doesn't think we're her parents, because i'm going to sit her down and tell all about it!!!!
and give her the biggest hug and let her know i haven't stopped loving her since.
I often remind my fifteen year old that I birth his enormous melon!

too cute, you had left out the 'she looks like her dad' part of the story when you told it today, good thing I decided to spy on your blog :) congrats! I think the two of you are going to be excellent parents.
