once upon a time, in the late 1980's and early 1990's, i used to visit a strange and wonderful land known as "san diego state university", where i was told fantastic tales of business law, economics 101, economics 102, and IDS 180. i took the morals these tales offered to heart.
years later, when my travels took me to yet another land, "mesa community college", the inhabitants were impressed with my past voyages, and offered to grant me citizenship in the form of an associates degree.
"alas!", cried the evil wizard of accounting, "i shall not allow you citizenship, as you did not present me with your complete visa! you neglected to include the IDS 180 lab, for which you would have received ONE CREDIT. you cannot have citizenship, despite your 113 credits and completion of all other classes necessary for said citizenship!"
"but, they no longer offer that class anymore, oh wise and wonderful wizard! can you not see it in your heart to allow me a pass?"
"ha, ha, ha!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! you shall NOT be offered a pass...but you can find another suitable class (upon my approval, of course) and take that in it's stead. and you will have to wait another 8 months until you get your associates degree, all for the lack of one credit!!"
and so, i took my turn at the oar once more, and set my heart on another 1/2 year until i could be granted citizenship in the hallowed land of mesa community college.
