a conversation

La Taureau: "what?!? why do you want to do that?"

me: "i'll admit, i don't where this came from, but i really want to. with the way the job market is, it would be nice to have a second income while you're out after the baby's born. plus they have good medical benefits, and retirement plan. my dad did, and i guess part of me what's to see what it's like. i've done a lot of things in my life, and i guess adding this would make me somewhat of a 'rennaisance man', so to speak...."

La Taureau: "yes, the baby. what are we going to do about the baby while you go off on this adventure?"

me: "well, i can request a delayed departure until the baby is born. after the baby is born, you can go to ohio with your parents, as we planned, and i can meet up with you there later. we also planned for me to stay here anyway for work, and wait until i had a job before going out there anyway. we could still do that when i get back."

La Taureau: "sheesh...when most people have a mid-life crisis, they go out and buy a sports car. you have to go out and join the army reserves...."

EDITOR'S NOTE: if it may seem like La Taureau does not support my latest endeavors, it's fair to say she was very concerned about the very real possibility of me getting deployed to harm's way. but upon further discussions with her and my recruiter, i am not eligible for combat as i will be in the reserves (they don't allow people who train two days a month to run around with firearms...) she has since told me she's very proud of my decision.
