the blogging culture

as i stated in my earlier missive, i have made the commitment to blogging my one new year's resolution. and while i'm not completely new to the whole blogging thing (i have had a livejournal account for years), most of my experience has been in a voyeuristic approach. to put more plainly, i read, and occasionally comment, other people's blogs.

this year, however, i am resolute in taking it to the next level; actively contributing to the blogging world. the most glaring problem is making my otherwise routine world into an exciting, interesting, or even humorous glimpse into my life. i've sent e-mails regaling my adventures during my trips to europe, which i have been told have been quite interesting. assuming the reader was being honest, and not merely attempting to put an end to my incessant "did you get my e-mail" inquiries, it's not hard making the city of rome or of paris sound engaging. i've even kept a private journal for nearly 10 years, but the contents of which are not fit for public consumption. the challenge then, dear reader, is to find a happy medium betwixt the two; a private journal that is both fit enough and interesting enough for public consumption.

for this, i've decided to do some research. a lesson quickly learned is that one should avoid political blogs during an election at all costs. actually, one should avoid political blogs regardless. they are based on conjecture, opinion, and hypothesis, and have very little to do with unbiased reporting. however, my "voyeuristic blogging" has not been without it's rewards; the wonderful quirkybird (also the author and illustrator of on-line comic, "family man"), who has a style and view that belies her early twenty-something years; sparkneely, who is near and dear friend, and fellow member of the "oak-town peanuts posse"; and springheel jack, a brit with impeccable style, and irascible prose. while conducting said research, imagine my surprised delight to learn my very own sister has a blog! perhaps i'm biased, but i found her posts about the mundane day-to-day to be witty, engaging, and downright enjoyable!! moreover, she has faithful followers, and a weekly haiku!

and so, dear reader, if you will permit me, i will offer peeks into the thoughts and motivations that i employ during my journey through this mortal coil. i invite your comments, suggestions, and returned visits. until next time, i bid you adieu!
